Privacy policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
CopyMD is a browser extension that converts web content to Markdown. This policy explains what the extension and the copymd.app website do with your data. Copied content and local settings stay on your device.
What we collect
We do not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data, browsing history or page content. CopyMD has no account system, no analytics and no advertising.
What stays on your device
Your settings and, if enabled, the history of your last 20 copies are stored in your browser's local extension storage. They never leave your device and are deleted when you clear the history or remove the extension.
Page content
CopyMD reads a page only when you ask it to copy something from that page (right-click menu, keyboard shortcut or popup button). The selected content is converted on your device and written to your clipboard.
Network requests
Once a day the extension downloads the public JSON configuration from https://api.copymd.app/v2/settings.json using GET. It also checks readiness using GET https://copymd.app/api/status without cookies, query parameters or user data. Only when readiness is red does the popup display an iframe of our own website at https://copymd.app/tech-work/. That website's scripts poll status independently and are not extension code. Installing or uninstalling the extension does not automatically open a welcome or uninstall page.
Permissions
activeTab and scripting read the selection on the current page when you ask; contextMenus adds the right-click menu; clipboardWrite and offscreen write to the clipboard; storage keeps settings and history; alarms schedules the daily configuration check; the optional tabs permission is requested only for “Copy all tabs as a list”.
Children
CopyMD is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
